TO: Alison Bright FROM: Heather Wilson SUBJECT : Doctors Without Borders Research Proposal Alison, as per your request I have summarized my humanitarian issue of interest and analyzed the organization Doctors Without Borders/ Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF). Humanitarian Issue Often, in situations of humanitarian crisis, people in poor health do not receive the care they need. Even in developing countries that experience relative political, social, and natural stability, an inadequate healthcare system can result in a severely unhealthy population. Various Proposed Solutions In earlier centuries, Western missionaries would often travel to undeveloped countries to provide food, technology, and healthcare, along with the ideologies of Christianity. The aide that they provided to natives suffered limitations, however, as missionaries often would not help unconverted community members, and they often carried diseases with them, which heavily infiltrated the native communities. The Red Cross was one of the first organizations to provide relief services in emergency situations. Founded in 1881, it provides services such as healthcare, shelter, food, and community reconstruction to the victims of war and natural disasters. However, the Red
