Discuss a moment in Philippine History you consider as similarly significant like your birthdate or best
For me the best moment in the Philippine history that I consider as similarly significant like my birthday
or best life experience is, when the Spanish colonization in the Philippines. I chose this because
sometimes when it’s my birthday I feel sadness and sometimes I am happy, it has advantages and
disadvantages. Many will disagree if I will say that this is the best moment in the Philippines history
specially my ancestors. This event has an advantages and disadvantages in our country. First let me talk
about the advantages of the said event in our country.
The first thing that I can think about the advantage of the colonization is that, when Spanish colonized
our country well known school were built. University of Santo Tomas is one of the oldest universities
here in our country. It was built on April 28, 1611. I can say that this is an advantage for our country
because the university produced well know people like our nation hero, Dr. Jose Rizal. According to the
website Bartleby (2021), only the Philippines improved in terms of culture, wealth, and population in
1820. Many schools were established as a result of the development of schools. They taught them
English reading, writing, and speaking. The population grew rapidly, and agriculture was expanded. The
Philippines was eventually established as an independent nation by the Americans.
The second advantage that I can think of is the religion. As a roman catholic I can say this is a positive
effect for us specially for Christian Filipinos. Christianity is a religion that allows you to express your
beliefs and faith in God. A faith such as Catholicism helps us in developing our character and in instilling
values such as love, respect, empathy, and many others.
Lastly, the language. Until now we are using their language, for me it is an advantage because not all
people here in our country can understand Filipino or English. Sometimes we can hear Spanish words
outside our home like in the market, vendors are using Spanish words like “bente” “dos” and many more
not just in the market.
I also believe that it can help us in our future specially when we our going to
apply work to other countries specially to the countries who also uses the Spanish language.
That's just a few of the many advantages of the Spanish colonization in the Philippines. During the
Spanish colonization, people were killed and forced to convert to Christianity. There are also times when
they force Filipinos to follow their culture, faith, and education, among other things. Since Spaniards
push us to become this, we forget our identity or cultural identity. That is the negative side of the
