Tutors will advise their students of the times and location for their consultations in the week prior to a consultation week. 3 LEGT 1710 Business and the Law Course Aims This course aims to provide: an understanding of the relationship of the law to business an understanding of legal reasoning and argument how to apply legal principles to problem situations that may arise in the business context an introduction to the legal method of writing, analysis and research the knowledge and skills for study of other business law or taxation courses (for those interested in undertaking other courses offered by the School of Business Law and Taxation) 4 LEGT 1710 Business and the Law Course Overview This course deals with: the Australian legal system the Australian Constitution and Commonwealth/State relations Parliament and statute law/the courts and case law areas of substantive law relevant to business, including: ¾ contract law ¾ tort law (with particular reference to negligence) ¾ property law ¾ consumer law ¾ competition law ¾ risk management and compliance 5 LEGT 1710 Business and the Law Lectures Times: Stream A: Thursday, 2pm to 4pm, Law Theatre G04 Stream B: Tuesday, 9am to 11am, CLB 6 Stream C: Tuesday, 4pm to 6pm, Law Theatre G04 Students must attend either a Stream A, B or C lecture in accordance with their enrolment 6 LEGT 1710 Business and the Law Download course materials from Blackboard See http://www.telt.unsw.edu.au ¾ Course Outline ¾ Tutorial Program ¾ Lecture slides - weekly ¾ Assignments You must check this site regularly
