Understanding the CLT Go to Blackboard and open Course Documents, Lab Information… Open the folder Lab 4 and click on the external link for Understanding the CLT. o Please use Internet Explorer. Once at the website, click twice on the Begin button located in the upper-left hand corner (it may take a few minutes for the new window to open) . The distribution at the top of the screen is the population from which each sample is drawn. 1) What are the population parameters? Describe the shape of the parent population? μ = 16.00 σ = 5.00 The parent population is normally distributed. It is symmetrical with 68% of the individual scores falling within one standard deviation. Click the animated sample button once. Five data points will appear on the histogram below the parent population. This is the sample data. Under the sample data histogram is the distribution of the means . For the distribution of the means , this is the number of data points that make up that mean. The mean is plotted on this distribution. Reps: For the sample data, this is equal to N (i.e., the number of individual scores). For the distribution of the means , this is the number of N=5 samples that are plotted on your distribution (i.e., 1). 2) What are the sample statistics for the data? The sample statistic in this case is the mean (the sd is not given) of your sample. In my example, the mean for the sample data (i.e., individual scores) is 16.39. Click the animated sample button 5 more times. For each time, record the sample statistics for the sample data & distribution of means below before clicking the button again . In total, your Distribution of means should have 6 Reps. 3) Record the sample statistics for each 5 samples below. After you clicked the animated sample button five times, record the sample statistics for the distribution of the means. How does each of the five different sample statistics from the sample data (as a group) compare to the parameters of the parent population?
