Figure 1(a) shows a beam ABC fixed at end A and free at end C. The beam has a
uniform load q between A and B. A point load P acts on a rigid link connected to the
beam at the free end C.
Figure 1(b) shows the crosssection of the beam. Given: w =
200 mm, h = 120 mm, t = 20 mm, L = 2 m, e = 100 mm, P = 1 kN and q = 1 kN/m.

Draw the shear force and bending moment diagrams for the whole beam (indicating
all critical values at A, B and C). State the maximum absolute shear force and bending
moment on the beam.

(b)
Determine the maximum absolute normal stress and the maximum shearing stress on
the beam.
