This paper contains FIVE (5) questions and comprises 5 (FIVE) pages. 2. Answer ALL questions. 3. All questions carry equal marks. 4. This is a CLOSED-BOOK Examination. 5. A list of equations can be found on Page 5. 1. Figure 1(a) shows a beam ABC fixed at end A and free at end C. The beam has a uniform load q between A and B. A point load P acts on a rigid link connected to the beam at the free end C. Figure 1(b) shows the cross-section of the beam. Given: w = 200 mm, h = 120 mm, t = 20 mm, L = 2 m, e = 100 mm, P = 1 kN and q = 1 kN/m. (a) Draw the shear force and bending moment diagrams for the whole beam (indicating all critical values at A, B and C). State the maximum absolute shear force and bending moment on the beam. (12 marks) (b) Determine the maximum absolute normal stress and the maximum shearing stress on the beam.
