Spencer Sher 6342841 October1st, 2012 Krista Riley Youth and Media Reading Response #2 Images of Youth: A content Analysis of Adolescents In Prime-Time Entertainment Programming Author: Katharine E. Heintz-Knowles This reading was primarily made up of various tables detailing Heintz's research in regard to the representation of youth in Prime-Time entertainment programming. However, Heintz does make some interesting observations that are worth discussing in further detail. There are two points that I would like to focus on in this response: television as a reflective and influential medium and the subjects that are most commonly found at the heart of discussion amongst televised youth. Heintz states that adolescent viewers, “use television entertainment for information about their current and future social roles” (Images of Youth, P.22). I tend to agree with this statement. Adolescents are constantly looking for guidance in all aspects of life. They are still learning how the world works and TV is one way they learn how to handle themselves on a daily basis.
