From June through September 2009, the Pew Internet Project The organization of the report This report is the fruit of a collaboration between the University of Michigan and the Pew Research Center ’s Internet & American Life Project in an attempt to broadly capture the current state of mobile phone ownership and use among American youth and their families today. From June through September 2009, the Pew Internet Project fielded a random digit -dial telephone survey among a nationally representative sample of 800 teens ages 12 -17 and one of their parents or a guardian (the teen and their parent/guardian were interviewed independently). In addition to the telephone survey, the University of Michigan fielded 9 focus groups among teens ages 12 -18 in four cities in June and October of 2009.
