The funeral directors are constantly upselling people to outrageously priced coffins and caskets, using their grief and guilt as weapons against themselves. When family members die, the ones left to make the arrangements generally, unless deeply religious, just want to do what is socially accepted. In America, that unfortunately means that they generally can spend upwards of $8,000 to $10,000 (4) dollars when the whole thing is said and done. It seems that the general public could take a page from the Jewish traditions and reevaluate death and funerals. The respect that is given to the deceased is refreshingly real.
