Many people I have talked to didn’t feel that the gross gap between the rich and the poor was unjust. They thought it made sense for them to have such little opportunities because apparently, that’s the way things are supposed to be. The piles of trash stacked into hills and formed into small enclaves that serve as homes; children having to risk their lives as they run amongst rushing cars to sell pieces of gum; feasting around a trash can. All of these are enough to discourage one from thinking that the situation cannot be rectified. The Philippines has one of the largest income disparities, which is why the poor have a much longer way to go in order to achieve even the basic standard of living.
