5/6 th period Equality 7-2521 vs. International 4-8818 Equality and International find a tunnel from the Unmentionable Times, and in finding that tunnel, their friendship is tested. “We shall report our find to the City Council and both of us will be rewarded.” (pg. 33) Equality did not want International to report the finding because it was against the law to touch things from the Unmentionable Times. “We shall not report our find to the City Council. We shall not report it to any men.” (pg. 33) “Will you report us to the Council and see us lashed to death before your eyes?” (pg. 34) Once International realizes the circumstances, he replies with “Rather would we die.” (pg. 34) The conflict is resolved by International agreeing to hide the tunnel from the Council’s knowledge in fear that Equality and himself could be put to death for finding it. Equality 7-2521 vs. Himself Equality knows that he is not like the other people in his society.
