Teacher Work Sample-ABC As a future teacher, it is important to understand that every school is different, even if they are only across the street from each other. The school that I am currently observing in, Grant Elementary, is located in Norfolk, NE. It is a large, urban town of 24,000 surrounded by rural farms and small towns. Norfolk has a low crime rate and is an economic center for many small towns that surround it. Despite the low population there is a total of ten elementary schools and six parochial schools. Grant Elementary, is in the middle of several other elementary schools and homes. There are many big business a few blocks away, but otherwise, Grant Elementary is in a strictly school zone. Norfolk is a growing community with the majority of the population in the age ranges of 0-19 and 25-65. There is a high Latino/Hispanic population and Native American population, but the majority is white (City of Norfolk, 2014). It is important to understand that students are not affected by only things that happen in the classroom. In fact, students are usually most affected by their social life and community outside of school. I can use all of the above information to help the students relate what they are learning in the classroom to their life outside the classroom. Because Norfolk is an economic center, they can learn about supply and demand and the fact that math, reading, and science is important and used in everyday life. Since there is such a diverse population of races and ethnic backgrounds, it is important for teachers to understand their students’ backgrounds and family life. If the student speaks a second language outside of school, they may lack or not completely

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
