• Neurons in the CNS are more varied than any other cells
in the body. Some of their characteristics:
– They are excitable
• due to specific proteins in neuronal membranes: ion channels and
pumps. – The are ‘dynamically polarized’: unidirectional information
– They have four distinct zones:
• change the equilibrium inside and out of the cell. within a neuron there is a one way path of information cell body
