Touch, sight, hearing, smell, andtaste allow us to make contact with the world's surroundings. Psychologists explore further intoour senses and understanding of the world by defining sensation and perception. We will discussthe difference between the two and provide examples showing how they play a role in oureveryday lives.Sensation can be described as the way we use our sensory receptors, sense of touch, sight,hearing, smell, and taste, to pick up information. Specialized neurons detect and respond tostimuli. For example, when you stare at your computer screen, as I am doing right now, youreceive that light from your screen to your eyes. This is a sensation being sent to your brain.
