But, in the grand scheme of things, the universe owes you absolutely nothing. You are just another person in the universe, which is why it has no obligation to you or anyone else. Stephen Crane’s pessimistic outlook on the influence of a single human being in the universe is shown through his use of figurative language, in particular, his use of personification. 2.
