1. Add two input ports . Clic k the Add menu at the top and s elec t Port in. Add two input ports , by c lic k ing on two different
plac es in the s c hematic . Pres s Es c to leave “add port in” mode. Be c areful while in “add” mode, if y our c urs or goes off the
edge of the s c hematic , it will s c roll unc ontrollably . 2. Save y our des ign. Notic e the * by the name of y our file at the top of the window? That * means that y our des ign has not
been s aved. Save y our s c hematic either with the pull down menus or by pres s ing Ctrl and s at the s ame time. Save y our
s c hematic early and often to avoid los ing y our work in c as e HDL Des igner c ras hes .
3. Add an output port. Clic k the Add menu again and s elec t Port out. Clic k onc e to add a s ingle output port. Plac e it on the
right s ide of the s c hematic window.
4. Add an AND gate.
a. Clic k the Add menu and s elec t Com pone nt. You s hould s ee a new window c alled the Component Brows er. If y ou
s ee two libraries , one c alled la b5_lib and another c alled m odule w a re , s k ip to s tep 4(c ). b. Sinc e this is y our firs t time ac c es s ing this tool, y ou may need to add a library of c omponents c alled m odule w a re .
Jus t c lic k on the top left button (open book ) and s elec t moduleware library . Your Component Brows er window s hould
look lik e this : c . Navigate the Component Brows er to find the N input AND ga te (under Logic s ec tion). Clic k and drag an N input
AND ga te (whic h we will s imply c all an AND gate from now on) onto the s c hematic . Your s c hematic drawing at this
point s hould appear as s hown below. 5. Modify a gate’s parameters . Double c lic k the AND gate. You s hould now s ee the ModuleW are Parameters window for the
AND gate. You c an c hange the number of inputs for an AND gate through this parameters menu. Sinc e we want only 2
inputs for our AND gate and the number of inputs s hould already be 2, jus t c lic k Ok to c los e the parameters menu. In future
c irc uits , y ou may want AND gates with 3 or more inputs . 6. Now add one more AND gate, an inverter (als o c alled a NOT gate), and an N input OR gate (whic h we will c all an OR gate from now on) as s hown. 7. Add a new s ignal by adding new wires .
