This will be needed to power up y our c irc uits . The Protoboard The pic ture below s hows a protoboard with a digital c irc uit as s embled on it. There a few k ey features that y ou s hould notic e about the protoboard. On the left-hand s ide of the photo are four c olored jac k s : three red and one blac k Thes e jac k s are us ed to c onnec t y our protoboard to the powers upply . The white portion of the board with hundreds of pinholes is referred to as the breadboard. You will build y our c irc uits in this portion of the board. There are two ty pes of s maller breadboards : bus s trips and terminal s trips Bus s trips are the s ec tions of the breadboard that have a red line with a '+ ' s ign on one s ide and a blue line with a '-' s ign on the other s ide. Terminal s trips are the s ec tions of the breadboard that have letters ac ros s one s ide and numbers down the other. Eac h bus s trip and terminal s trip is elec tric ally ins ulated from every bus s trip and terminal s trip. Signa ls identify a s et of w ire s that are all c onnec t elec tric ally and c ontain the s ame information. Eac h bus s trip has two bus es , the red bus and the blue bus , whic h are elec tric ally ins ulated from eac h other. All pinholes in eac h bus are elec tric ally c onnec ted as a s ingle bus and c arry "global s ignals " - s ignals that s hould be made available to many parts of the c irc uit. W e ty pic ally c onnec t the blue bus es to the ground s ignal and red bus es to the pow e r s ignal s o that power and ground are alway s c los e to where we need them. On y our breadboards , eac h terminal s trip has 64 rows (labeled with numbers ) and 10 c olumns (labeled with letters ) and pinholes are grouped into s ets of 5 pinholes c alled terminals . Eac h row is elec tric ally ins ulated from the others . In eac h row, the A, B, C, D, and E c olumns are elec tric ally c onnec ted to eac h other, but ins ulated from the F, G, H, I, and J c olumns by the c...
