2. GRETL: An open-source statistical package, GRETL can be downloaded from
The university does not recognize Econ4400 as a course that need computer lab. I disagree with this
proposition, and believe that this class benefits highly from a hands-on computer approach. So during the
semester, I will ask you to bring your laptops to specific class sessions. The dates of these sessions will be
announced in advance in class and on Carmen. If you don’t have access to a personal laptop computer,
please contact me during the first week of the semester and I can help you make arrangement to borrow
equipments from the university.
Course material such as announcements, lecture slides, instructional videos, and homework assignments
will be posted on Carmen. You are responsible to check the Carmen for announcement and posted
assignment and files regularly. The announcements posted on Carmen are considered addendum to this
syllabus and will be treated as part of the syllabus.
The lecture notes will be posted on Carmen about 12 hours before class. There will not usually be enough
time for you to copy down the slides form the board during class. It is strongly recommended that you
print out the lecture slides and bring it to class. You are alternatively encouraged to bring your laptop or
