Aravella Triantafillidou TOK IB1 9/3/2021 Are some types of knowledge more useful than others? Object 1: Painting by Tzeni Leondiadou This is an abstract work of art, giving the viewer multiple interpretations. I take Art as a class, and I have basic knowledge and vocabulary to analyze any painting correctly, whereas a person with a lack of art knowledge would interpret the painting in a much different way. This painting shows that the knowledge that I have learned throughout this art course, affects how I perceive this piece of art. In this painting, I observe a stormy sea, probably near the thousands of islands dotting around Greece. The colors are characteristics of the islands found in the Cyclades and are also associated with culture and the Greek flag, which contains blue and white stripes. Culture can be translated as another type of knowledge since there are countries with differences in language, history, customs, and culture. A fact that causes them to obtain divergent perspectives and interpretations of the world around them.
