Erblina Mustafai Physics 203- GH2 TA: Sara Abedi Lab 5 - Linear Momentum Lab Introduction This lab highlighted understanding the notion of linear momentum and impulse. Linear momentum is the product of a system's mass multiplied by the velocity. The formula for linear momentum is expressed as p = mv. Momentum is directly proportional to the object's mass and also its velocity. Because of this relationship, the greater the mass of the object, the greater its velocity, the greater its momentum . Linear momentum is often referred to as “quantity of motion.” Newton’s second law was in terms of momentum: The net external force equals the change in momentum of a system divided by the time over which it changes.
