Though the statistics say that the percentage of Roman Catholics is extremely high, the percentage of actual “practicing catholics is much lower”. It is hard to pin down exactly the number because the definition of a “practicing catholic” varies. Contrary to popular belief, the religious experience in Spain is similar to that of the United States. The degree to which people practice varies greatly, and it does not have a large impact on daily life. Culture Because of our close proximity to Mexico and Latin America, Americans tend to assume that Spain is the same, and confuse their cultures. Many Mexican traditions have made their way over from Spain and have been transformed, but the two cultures are clearly different.
