Forsythe 2IntroductionWhen you think of glucose, the first thing you think of is probably sugar. However,when you dig deeper, glucose plays a huge role in the negative feedback loop ofcontrolling blood sugar with insulin or glucagon. “Glucose molecules are broken downwithin cells in order to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP) molecules, energy-richmolecules that power numerous cellular processes” (Staff, 2017). With the help ofinsulin and glucagon, blood sugar levels can be lowered and raised, respectively, to bebrought back to glucose homeostasis in a negative feedback loop.BackgroundHomeostasis is the body’s natural state of balance. It is the set point at which thebody functions best at. Feedback is a response in a system that influences the activityin that system. Negative feedback is when the body notices when levels are off andworks to bring the system back to homeostasis. There is first a stimulus, then a sensor(or receptor) that evaluates the physiological process, after that the control mechanismoccurs, and finally the effector is what actually changes the stimulus to return back to
