Rule 1 - Postpone and Withhold Judgment Encourage “wild” ideas from others with no criticism Record your ideas: incl. irrelevant or silly Your role as a participant is twofold: suggest ideas that will work as a solution suggest ideas that will stimulate solutions in others Rule 2 - Encourage wild and exaggerated ideas Often easy to “tame” a wild idea Bizarre and unworkable ideas spark others Exaggerate ideas to the extreme Rule 3 - Quantity counts at this stage not quality Maximize the number of ideas The more ideas considered the better the odds of finding a really good idea Narrow down the list later Rule 4 - Build on others’ ideas Use other people’s ideas as an inspiration Creative people are “good listeners” Combine ideas to explore new possibilities Rule 5 – Every person and every idea has equal worth Every person has a valid viewpoint and a unique perspective Participate Encourage participation from others
