Jared Weisenbeck Ag. Econ 240 3-11-13 Milk + Quality = More Money In the November issue of AMPI’s Dairymen’s Digest, there is an article called “Milk + Quality = More Money.” In this article, it talks about a family farm that consists of a father and son trio of farmers; John, Joe, and Eric Merdan. These three farmers operate an eighty five cow dairy in central Minnesota. When John expanded their farm to accommodate for Joe and Eric entering the family business they realized that the expansion was not enough for all three of them to make a living. The three men decided that they needed to produce better quality milk to receive top dollar for their product. Previously their somatic cell count (SCC) had been around 250,000 on average; but, today they have decreased that amount to consistently be around 100,000 SCC. When they were asked about this the trio responded that it wasn’t easy, that there were many steps that they had to take to reach these numbers.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
