Jared Weisenbeck Ag. Econ 240 5-9-13 The Future of Cooperatives Over the past 50 years there have been many changes and advancements in the field of agriculture. Among these advancements has been the evolution of the cooperative. It has seen many different trends and changes in this time and has many more to see in the future. In the next 50 years there will also be many different trends in the field of agriculture; these will be faced with cooperatives at the forefront. A current trend that is happening in agriculture, and with cooperatives, today is up scaling. Many farms and cooperatives are increasing their size to become sustainable and profitable. Today there are far less farms in the past but even more acres are being farmed. Therefor even though cooperative’s membership may not be increasing, or may even decrease, they will still be strong and healthy. With fewer members being active in cooperatives there will
