English 200:1 Furniss Paper 2 assignment: A Sand County Almanac Due dates: Monday, March 11: Rough draft due in class Friday, March 15: Paper 2 due Length: About four pages, correctly formatted Weight: 20% Context: A Sand County Almanac is in some respects an extended argument that begins with these words in Leopold’s forward: “That land is a community is the basic concept of ecology; […] that land is to be loved and respected is an extension of ethics” (xix). At the other end of the book, in “The Land Ethic,” Leopold continues this argument in more detail. Look at these passages, for example: “[…] a land ethic changes the role of Homo sapiens from conqueror of the land- community to plain member and citizen of it (240). “Conservation is a state of harmony between men and land” (243). “One basic weakness in a conservation system based wholly on economic motives is that most members of the land community have no economic value” (246).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
