These two scenes were the turning point of the movie and Chaplin’s career II. 1:13:58 – 1:15:08 a. Began with the Tramp’s boss saying, “I hope you can sing” b. Everyone is now concerned with his song, as opposed to his overall performance c. He is having a hard time remembering lines, and isn’t focusing on the physical performance d. The girl writes the lyrics on his cuff III. 1:16:35 – 1:19:28 a. The girl tells him to just sing – the words aren’t important b. He hesitates, then starts singing c. Not in any language! It’s some odd hybrid language d. His physical performance is so captivating and descriptive, that words aren’t needed e. He tells a story with his actions, just like all of his silent films f. His boss tells him he’ll do fine and has a steady job f.i.
