Privacy in Social Networking Social Networking has taken the world into a different dimension, allowing people all over the world to communicate and share their personal information through the use of the Internet . As the number of Internet users continues to grow, society becomes more dependent of its abilities and finds it as an essential tool in everyday life . A recent study conducted in 2010 by the Pew Research Center in Washington, D . C . found that 65% of Internet users visit social networking websites every day- more than double the 28% that used social networking in 2008 . (Social Networking) Although social networks are becoming more and more popular each day, the risk of having one’s privacy intruded is highly likely . With personal information being shared online, anyone is able to view this content whether you know who the person is or not . The use of social networking raises concerns of the invasion of an individual’s privacy and can lead to undesired consequences like cyber-stalking and identity theft . Whether you are communicating and connecting with friends, family, or acquaintances, social networking serves as a gateway for others to follow what someone does or says . Cyber-stalking is a form of harassment that a stalker uses to trace, locate, and inflict harm on their victim through the use of the Internet and other technological means . After a series of e-mails and phone calls, they arranged a date, when

the alleged assault occurred . ” (Cyber Socializing) Although the girl willingly made these choices to associate with the predator, MySpace takes responsibility for the action being initiated through its services . The lawsuit argues that the social networking site did not provide the necessary security to protect its users from these online stalkers . Similarly, in the case of Travis Allen Davis of New Castle, Indiana, Facebook allowed him to stalk an ex-girlfriend and persuade her to get back together with him by using the name of another ex-girlfriend he had previously raped .

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
