Chapter 4: Logos A. Providing Hard Evidence Logos-arguments based on facts, evidence, and reason People prefer arguments based on facts and testimony to those grounded in reasoning alone Providing appropriate evidence ought to become a habit whenever you write an argument a) Facts Facts make strong arguments, especially when readers believe they come from honest sources In an ideal world, good information would always drive out bad Consequently, bad information gets repeated into an echo chamber that amplifies the errors As a reader/researcher, scrutinize any facts you collect before passing them on yourself; test their reliability and admit any problems at the start b) Statistics Figures lie and liars figure It’s possible to lie with numbers, even those that are accurate Need to be interpreted by writers who always have agendas that shape the interpretations c) Surveys and Polls

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
