Change Process Change Disrupts equilibrium; involves endings, transitions, and beginnings. Hopefully, effected individuals will come to acceptance Generally occurs in response to three different activities: Spontaneous Developmental planned Spontaneous change Also referred to as reactive or unplanned change because it is not fully anticipated Developmental change Physiopsychologic changes that occur during an individual’s life cycle or to the growth of an organization as it becomes more complex. Not consciously planned; they just happen Planned change Lippitt (1973) Intended, purposeful attempt by an individual, group, organization, or larger social system to influence the status quo of itself, another organism, or a situation 4 ways we change (Alfaro-LeFevre, 2009) Pendulum change: “I was wrong before, but now I’m right.” Change by exception: “I’m right, except for….” Incremental change: “I was almost right before, but now I’m right.”
