CMPT 9/28 Class Notes Noble truths There is a difference between noble lie and a lie Controlling ideology is dangerous Freedom and autonomy Autonomy means the rule of behavior is established by the individual Freedom is self-control Slaves are not free human beings There is something above them controlling what they do A self-controlling person is a person who’s intellect is controlling their appetite (desires) “Autonomy/self-moderation is a kind of order. It is mastery over pleasure and desire. It is when the best part of the soul (intellect) rules over the worst part of the soul.” The slave does not reach the level of freedom/citizenship because he CANNOT ask for REASONS when he is ordered to follow the law Moderation is NOT killing desire; it is CONTROLLING desire The city is best when the intellect of the city is controlling the appetite of the city The city gets this way when its citizens’ intellect control their own appetites “THE KALI-POLIS (JUST CITY) IS THE CITY IN WHICH THE CITIZENS ARE SELF-CONTROLLING, MODERATE, FREE CITIZENS

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
