SPCM 333, Spring 2014 The Great Debaters Analysis & Discussion Assignment Dr. K. Sabbath Travis Edwards First, the film, “ The Great Debaters ” will be viewed. This film will be used as a tool in our examination of Communication & Organizational Culture, in addition to relevant aspects of Leadership. In preparation for our class discussion that will begin on Monday, February 17th, address the following: Complete the readings on Organizational Culture found on RAMCT: Identify the communication between and among the debaters that assisted them in constructing the culture of their organization. The debaters in this organization developed a relationship inside their organization from there respected cultures. With developing that relationship, they all shared a common goal which made their organization stronger. In the course reading they referred to the past generations (the debaters time period) as treating communication as a epiphenomenon. How did the perspectives and experiences of the individual debaters contribute to their organizational culture? Each person had a special aspect that they brought towards their organizational culture. The leader of the debaters, Tolson, shows great leadership and guidance and seems to be a role model in the student’s eyes. Henry seems to know and have a great sense of remembering famous poems which shows his creativity and passion for the organization. James Farmer Jr. seems to inherit his father’s critical thinking abilities along with his great sense of knowledge. The last notable member, Samantha
