MG 210 Pfizer Case application Professor Hartman October 23, 2013 1. With PfizerWorks, Pfizer is outsourcing tedious work that isn’t helping the company grow and move forward. Essentially, they are sending PowerPoint’s, reports and other tedious and time-consuming tasks to an Indian service-outsourcing firm who confirm and complete the tasks in less time than it’d take a Pfizer employee to do. This form of outsourcing is benefitting the company greatly saving employees 66,500 hours of work that could be spent strategizing, innovating, networking, collaborating, and thinking critically. 2. PfizerWorks utilizes work specialization effectively. By dividing work activities into separate job, it’s more time efficient because more parts can be outsourced and smaller parts can have more time spent on by employees. PfizerWorks also takes control of the chain of command. The Indian firms call and email the Pfizer employee to make sure

On the other hand, PfizerWorks makes span of control difficult for the managers because they can’t control outside employees. 3. This type of outsourcing arrangement could work for many organizations as long as the company involves a lot of strategizing, innovating, networking, collaborating and critical thinking as Pfizer does. It would work best for innovative companies that are constantly coming up with new products. 4. I think the organizational structure plays a big role in an organizations efficiency and effectiveness because it assigns certain aspects of assignments to different departments and creates a downward management assessment. If jobs weren’t split up amongst departments then the organization would be a jumbled mess and nothing would get done correctly or on time....
