Every behavior we engage in is in least partly sex and aggression Rarely do we perform actions that satisfy only 1 of each, mostly both Unconscious feelings drives our goals whether or not the outcome is successful Ego Moment we are born something happens Begin to develop ego Experiencing part of the mind, works off the reality principle Reality Principle:  If it feels good do it, only if its not going to get us in trouble.  Only if its safe Takes into account the consequences of our actions Seeks Objects:  Keeps track the images the ID is interested in. If this is  something attainable and wont harm, lets do it (ego) i.e. getting a cookie Secondary – replaces ids investment with an image, but a reinvestment of that  image with an object Creates barriers to ID:  existence/development of ego reduces sexual tensions  by id/libido. Ego steals libido from the ID to power all of its own rational
