Anatomy & Physiology II AHS 132 Chapter 18 The Endocrine System Actions of Thyroid Hormones • T3 & T4 = thyroid hormones responsible for our metabolic rate , synthesis of protein, breakdown of fats, use of glucose for ATP production • Calcitonin = responsible for building of bone & stops reabsorption of bone ( lower blood levels of Calcium ) Effects of Thyroid Hormones on Peripheral Tissues 1. Elevates rates of oxygen consumption and energy consumption; in children, may cause a rise in body temperature 2. Increases heart rate and force of contraction; generally results in a rise in blood pressure 3. Increases sensitivity to sympathetic stimulation 4. Maintains normal sensitivity of respiratory centers to changes in oxygen and carbon dioxide concentrations 5. Stimulates red blood cell formation and thus enhances oxygen delivery 6. Stimulates activity in other endocrine tissues 7. Accelerates turnover of minerals in bone Control of T3 & T4 Secretion • Negative feedback system

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
