The purpose of this piece of propaganda is to recruit men for the United States Army. Main Message: of this poster is to persuade the viewer to join the armed forces and fight in the war because they need your help to win the war. The intended audience: The poster is recruiting young males for the U.S army. They are the most able bodied and desired recruit. Ethos: In this piece of propaganda utilizes the character Uncle Sam which represents the United States government. His hat has stars on it and the colors red, white and blue are used to symbolize the U.S. as well. The use of Uncle Sam and the specific colors gives credibility to the message. Pathos: The poster utilizes the strong and trustworthy character of uncle sam to instill pride in the viewer. The pointing of the finger at the viewer and telling them specifically they are needed to fight the war creates a sense of responsibility upon the reader. Logos: The message of the poster is the U.S. Army wants you to fight, walking away from the poster is walking away from your country, therefore the viewer will enlist.
