Harding, Coolidge 1921, 1925, 1929 Inaugural Addresses Warren G. Harding 1. The great nation of the United States has just come out of a great war in the Old World. Although there is no physical damage of “devastated lands” or “desolated cities” and no remaining hatred, the government has spent too much money and the currency has been inflated greatly. Also, relationships must be rebuilt with the European powers. 2. Republicanism, Democracy, and Liberty will always exist if our civilization endures. Believes in isolationism and national sovereignty. Doesn’t want to tie the US down with permanent military allegiances, political commitments, or economic obligations. Believes strongly in US neutrality. Wants administrative efficiency, less taxes, adequate credit facilities, sympathy towards farmers, and most importantly, less government interference in business. Conservative, back to laissez faire. 3. Promises continued isolationism, reconstruction, readjustment, restoration, less government
