"To clone" simply means "to make an exact genetic copy of ...kinda like mitosis, only larger scale A multicellular organism can be cloned A cutting taken from a plant and put into soil can sometimes grow into a new plant • In recent years, biotechnology has greatly expanded the range of organisms that can be cloned lEven adult mammals can be cloned. This is called reproductive cloning Cloning is very inefficient!! It took 277 attempts to get Dolly (the only survivor) All cloning successes have shown similar inefficiency. • Thus, cloning is not a good means to make more animals that can be made through normal reproductive routes. The Cloning of Dolly • The basic process involves taking the diploid nucleus of one animal and placing it into the egg of another animal • The udder cell and egg cell were placed side by side • An electrical current was applied. ..
