It also changed societal expectations of what a “normal family” looked like. Because so many magazines began portraying the television as a staple home fixture that everyone had and also as a medium to reconnect the family in the midst of cultural change, many families felt pressured to buy a television. It was suggested that family life was now “supposed” to be centered around the television and this is how the father, who is still adjusting to life after the war, would relate to his wife and kids and spend time with them.
