Ron Kim “Researchers Say” In his essay, “Researchers Say”, Ian Frazier uses a variety of transitions in order to make his essay flow from one idea to the next. His transitions move the essay from one sentence to another and one paragraph to the next. However, within the paragraphs, these transitions are mainly used to refer to the satirical study done to collect data and another satirical study focusing on death. Throughout his whole essay, Frazier continuously refers back to the fictional study done by Duke University. In fact he starts his essay with the sentence, “According to a study just released by scientists at Duke University, life is too hard.” Throughout the whole second paragraph, there are numerous references to the study done by Duke. For example, when he is explaining the researcher’s view on the positive logic for life before the study was done, he refers to the study by using the phrase, “Before the study was undertaken.” Even past the beginning paragraphs, Frazier constantly alludes back
