Ron Kim “The Plot Thins”/ “Short. Punchy.” Authors of both “The Plot Thins” and “Short. Punchy.” include humor in the passages to emphasize certain points and draw the readers’ attention to those points. Both these authors mainly add humor through the use of sarcasm and irony. In “The Plot Thins,” sarcasm is applied to show how Cliffs Notes “help” the students learning about literature. The author, Francine Prose, writes that Cliffs Notes discards “needless verbiage, distracting fillips of expression and confusing complication.” There obviously is a great amount of sarcasm in this since this “unnecessary” verbiage and expressions are what made those works of literature so celebrated. Prose also emphasizes teenagers’ lack of appreciation and adoration of the works of literature with a heavy dose of sarcasm when stating, “…it’s heartening to think that teenagers have spent millions per year to do supplementary, uncredited reading about their favorite books.”

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
