November 18, 2013 Social Psych: Aggression Module 24 Defining Agression Aggression: an intentional behavior meant to harm and the victim wants to avoid harm o Could be verbal, physical, relational, sexual Violence: aggression with the goal of extreme physical harm Types of Aggression Direct Aggression: refers to when the victim is physically present Indirect Aggression: refers to when the victim is absent o Cyber bullying (not in physical presence) o Over the phone o Gossiping (victim does not know, but still intending to harm) Reactive Aggression: Impulsive, angry aggression (spur of the moment aggression) Proactive Aggression: premeditated, calculated aggression (planned in advance) Instrumental Aggression: aggression, but the actual goal is something else o Terrorism o i.e) want bf or gf to buy you something so what you do is say harsh words you end up getting what you wanted Displaced Aggression: aggression towards someone or something when this isn’t
