Graves 1 001404918 Paper #4: Commentary EN 112305 Professor McCormack 12 November 2011 Friendship in The Chosen Friends are a very important part of life; they can get people through very hard times. The Chosen tells the story of the friendship of Reuven and Danny; it shares the struggles that they face and how they overcome every obstacle together. Although they did face the hard times they became closer during it. The different lifestyles and upbringings of Reuven and Danny brought them closer together, and caused them to be very close. Reuven grew up in a home where his father was very much a large part of his life, he told his father everything and they were very close. He really stressed the importance of Reuven finding a really good friend, and that he thought Danny would make a good friend for him (74). His father taught him to think differently than most people did. Because of this Reuven had a different way of thinking than most people did. On the other end of the spectrum Danny’s father was very strict about what he did. They did not have a very strong relationship and didn’t speak at all except for his studies of the Talmud (79). This made him very focused on studying Talmud because
