Gavin Au Sociology 1 Final Exam To define the sociological imagination, we should know the basic idea of the concept that it is the application of imaginative thought to the asking and answering of sociological questions. Someone using sociological imagination “thinks himself away” from the familiar routines of daily life. A significant distinction that lies with the idea of sociological imagination is between “the personal troubles of milieu” and “the public issues of social structure”. For the trouble and issues, people are usually lack of the ability to take our lives into a bigger picture, and view any changes to it as a trouble. People have involved in troubles due to the seldom awareness and do not understand that life is entwined with the structural arrangements of our society and the times in which we live. For instance, every individual would come to an analysis of this phenomenon based on his or her own experiences. To connect individual experiences and societal relationship by looking beyond their local environment and personality to wider social structures and a relationship between history, biography and social structure. Similarly, the sociological imagination is the ability to see things socially and how they interact and influence each other, which is the ability to see and understand the impact of social factors and changes on individuals’ private and public lives. It plays a vital role in the life of a sociologist as, only when we have the ability to look beyond our lives and view the world with a different perspective, do we have the power to escape or destroy our traps. Before implying sociological imagination to gender inequality, we should first understand about how different images of gender are constructing in our society. advantages over women. As a result, nature of job will then directly affect the job opportunities on behalf of their gender. In which men and women usually participate in a heavy-duty job and a household work respectively. Thus, the differences on the appearance of both men and women served the basic principle behind gender inequality. Refer back to the class discussion we have gone through, women’s job participations are also having a lower percentage than the men does. For example, an immigration physical check for female by a male doctor. The doctor asks the female take off her clothes due to the body check, but most of the female would feel extremely uncomfortable in that situation, because female are supposed to have their own privacy of their whole body. In that case, the female patient might want to see a female doctor instead, but most often are rejected because there are smaller numbers of female doctors. However, some of the male doctors still required the female to take off her clothing without regarding to their sensitivities. From a structural
