Gavin Au Sociology 1 Response Paper #7 “Gay Marriage” is written by Steven Seidman, is an article that arguing about the right of marriage between gay and lesbian. I think the discussion about whether marriage between gay and lesbian is legal or not exist in our society for a long time ago. And through this reading, it helps to study about this controversial topic from different views. At the beginning of the reading, it stated, “ Marriage is not just about love and intimacy between two adults. It is an institution.” Such word is so power, and give me an initial thought about it. For me, gay marriage is never a problem, as I think every people should enjoy the right to choose. It is not about whether the country enjoy high level of liberty or not, it is about the nature of human. The author has provided lots of historical fact of gay marriage. By reading those history, I was shocked that gay marriage was not an issue back in past. It was until gay communities want to fight for their equality on identity and right. The restriction that appears in the path of gay community is perhaps occurring because of social conformity. The author also shows that gay marriage is worldwide issue nowadays. Moreover, he also stated, ‘If marriage is about equal individual forging an intimate, loving, mutually committed relationship, then the gender of the partners should be irrelevant.” I really agree about
