Sociological Imagination The application of imaginative thought to the asking and answering of sociological questions. Someone using sociological imagination “thinks himself away” from the familiar routines of daily life. A significant distinction that lie with the idea of sociological imagination is between “the personal troubles of milieu” and “the public issues of social structure” Troubles and Issues o People are usually lack of the ability to take our lives into a bigger picture, and view any changes to it as a trouble. o Seldom awareness o Do not understand that life is entwined with the structural arrangements of our society and the times in which we live. Every individual would come to an analysis of this phenomenon based on his or her own experiences. Connect individual experiences and societal relationships To look beyond their local environment and personality to wider social structures and a relationship between history, biography and social structure.
