Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is responsible for the global coordination of the DNS Root, IPv4/v6 addressing, and other Internet protocol resources. Asia-Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) is responsible for assigning address space for IPv4/v6, and they control the autonomous system numbers as well as maintaining the database for Asian Pacific region. There are approximately 4.3 billion addresses in IPv4 and a subset of these have been distributed by IANA to the RIRs in blocks of approximately 16.8 million addresses each..

Unformatted text preview: . There are approximately 34.92116 trillion addresses in IPv6. I think the world is running out of IPv4 because there are only 4.3 billion addresses in IPv4. I think it will possibly take 10 years till the IPv4 to get completely exhausted. IPv4 addresses still being used even with the long-term solution with IPv6 it is due to most end users still operating with systems only capable of IPv4, because they had not upgraded and until everyone has to upgrade to IPv6, they will not. I do not believe it is possible to have companies hoarding IP addresses to not release them back to ARIN to turn on a profit since it is illegal....
