General guidelines: State operations as generally as possible Try to keep behavior close to related information Keep information about one thing in one place (DRY) Share complex responsibilities among objects That is, delegate responsibilities as appropriate (collaboration …) CPSC 491 22 Identifying initial responsibilities There are various “ rules of thumb ” for OOD The Single Responsibility Principle (SRP) Every object in the system should have a single responsibility Note that responsibility != method Responsibilities are like “ manage connections ”, manage data communication ”, “ display object ”, etc. When achieved, helps minimize changes … each class has only one reason to change (when the responsibility changes) CPSC 491 23
