ASSIGNMENT MODULE 7 1 Marvina Altayare 8271181 Assignment: Barriers to Effective Communication BUS 1021-5 Dev Doobay March 21, 2021
ASSIGNMENT MODULE 7 2 Introduction Communication is key to exchange and understand the messages between two people or more. Through communication, people can reach the point that solves the issues. Organizational behaviour focuses on having employees with effective communication that can help the work environment be more friendly and acceptable. Effective communication is about pointing out the emotion and intention behind the information and clearly adapting the message. As we live in a multicultural country, people might lack of effective communication as we all have different backgrounds. These barriers can be emotion, selective perception and information overload. The following paragraphs will demonstrate each one in detail. Filtering Filtering means when someone purposely sends influencing information, so the other side sees it as more favourable. For example, when employees tell the news that the manager would like to hear to make them happy. This situation can block the reflection of others who work hard and have effective communication. Many employees can be afraid to deliver the bad news to the manager; instead, they desire to please the manager by telling them the information that satisfied them ( Langton et al. P,252) . Lastly, Filtering can lead the communication level down and destroy the honesty in their relationship.
