BIO 130 Exam 3 STUDY GUIDE Dalrymple Spring 2013 (Ch 26, Ch 24.2, Ch 27.1-27.3) In order to be prepared for the exam, you should be able to answer the following questions. You can expect that to see short answer questions about some of these topics on the exam. Therefore, I highly recommend that you practice answering these questions in a clear, concise manner, as you would on an exam. 1. How do biologists define a species? 2. What are three different criteria biologists use to identify species? Give an example of a scenario where two populations would be considered distinct species by one set of criteria and not by another. 3. What common assumption underlies all three species concepts? 4. What is a phylogenetic tree? How are speciation events represented in a phylogenetic tree? 5. What is the difference between allopatric and sympatric speciation? Describe the conditions that lead to each type of speciation and highlight how they are different.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
