HIST 111 Political Elements Present in Mesopotamia Ancient Mesopotamia was a time and location of great civilization advancements. One of the most important advances to further quality of life towards the end of the era, was development of political elements. Many of the elements being born in the Mesopotamia were very archaic from the institution of government we know today but they can still be found in the foundations of many governments in our modern world. The first indication that a “government” was starting to emerge was the erection of large central temples which besides being a religious sanctuary was a place for decision making for the community (19:40). Priestly leaders of the temples were more than a voice for the Gods, they were also managers of communities wealth (pg. 8). Religious leaders redistributed the city's produce, controlled textile production, and managed employment (pg. 10). In a sense the early political system was Communist-
